Enjoy three nights at the Exclusive House in the Wild. House in the Wild and The Wild Villa is a family owned and operated boutique lodge and exclusive
villa perched on the banks of the Mara River on Naretoi – a private estate within the Enonkishu
Conservancy.
On what was once an intensive farm on the northern edge of the Mara ecosystem, Naretoi is the
first project of its kind where the land use on the edge of the Mara has reverted from intensive
commercial farming back to nature. Over the last ten years, this “rewilding” project has seen the
range lands return to their natural state, with wildlife returning to the area after over a decade
of intensive farming.
Guests will arrive either at the Naretoi or Ngerende airstrip and will be met by one of our guides in our open top safari cars. They will be taken to House in the Wild which is a 15 minute game drive away (only 5 minutes from Naretoi) where they will be shown their rooms and they will have the chance to settle in, take a swim or put their feet up before lunch.
At about 4.00pm they will head out into the Enonkishu and Ol Choro Conservation areas, a critical refuge area for wildlife on the edge of the Mara Serengeti ecosystem, this area is home to a resident pride of lion, a cheetah family and has a Wild Dog den in the forests on the edge of the Kileleoni Hill (the highest point of the Mara). The group will stop to enjoy sundowners on the plains before returning to House in the Wild where they will have a campfire and delicious supper waiting for them.
For those keen, a night drive can be arranged at 9.00pm after supper, to look out for the nocturnal animals.
An early morning wake up call and the guests can go out for a game drive to watch the sunrise over the plains of the Lemek conservancy, with a packed breakfast. The group will have the chance to visit the Mara Elephant Project headquarters and learn about the conservation work carried out to protect the elephants of the Mara, returning for lunch by the pool at House in the Wild.
An afternoon visit to the Mara Training Centre and our Enonkishu Headquarters, where guests can experience our Futures in the Wild program, learning about our wildlife monitoring programs, how Enonkishu works with the communities on a livestock program “Herds for Growth”, a regenerative grazing project with mobile predator proof boma’s, the education program where the schools engage in Wildlife conservation clubs. The guests can also see our Wild Shamba where the majority of vegetables are sourced for our kitchens. They can meet the Maasai ladies who manage the shamba and run the Indigenous tree nursery, and they can plant an indigenous tree in our arboretum project. For any guests interested in beading, they can do some beading with the ladies too. After this the guests will drive up to the Rhino Sanctuary on the edge of the hill, see the rhinos and enjoy a sun-downer looking over the vast plains. They will return for a supper by the fire.
Wake up with a coffee and enjoy an early morning walk along the Naretoi roads looking for tracks and birds, followed by breakfast by the river. For those wanting a more energetic activity - a Kileleoni Hill Climb is possible with the KWS armed ranger.
Lunch back at House in the Wild, enjoy the grounds, swim, play ping-pong / croquet, enjoy some fishing for catfish by the river.
Afternoon visit to the cattle boma’s followed by a trip to our local Manyatta (Maasai Village) and end up watching the sun set over the Memusi waterhole in Enonkishu, where a bush dinner will be set up.
Wake up and enjoy a leisurely breakfast overlooking the river at House in the Wild before departure. We will pick you upon arrival at the Wilson airport and transfer you to the nearby carnivore restaurant for lunch. After lunch we will drop you off at your city hotel or Jomo Kenyatta airport for your outbound flight.
